Blekko – a spam free search engine was launched over a year ago and it has grown significantly every month. We recently noticed that we weren’t attributing Blekko referrers as search and that is because Blekko deviated from the historical de facto standard for how search engines transmit search information within a URL. While their method is very SEO friendly and readable, it makes keyword analysis a little difficult than the rest.
Most search engines indicate the search term as a query string parameter such as “q” on the URL, however, for Blekko such a pattern doesn’t exist. A search for “FoxMetrics” yields http://blekko.com/ws/foxmetrics instead of the expected http://blekko.com/ws?q=foxmetrics. Therefore, all searches before today that came from Blekko were not flagged as Search, however, we are proud to announce that from now on all Blekko searches will be tracked as Search.
